About Cape Town

  • Peak Wind Season: November to March
This is Cape Town’s summer and the prime time for wind sports. The famous Cape Doctor (a strong south-easterly wind) blows reliably during this period, reaching 20–35 knots, especially in the afternoons.

    • December to February: Most consistent and powerful winds, perfect for Kitesurfing, windsurfing, and wingfoiling
  • Shoulder Season: September–October & April
Winds are more variable, with fewer days of strong wind but still rideable conditions. Good for intermediate to advanced riders looking for less crowded sessions.

  • Off-Season: May to August
Wind is less reliable, with occasional frontal systems bringing wind and rain. Not ideal for consistent riding but still possible on certain days.

Cape Town offers some of the strongest and most consistent summer winds in the world, making it a hotspot for pros and adventurous riders alike.

For Beginners and Intermediate Surfers:

The summer months, from October to April, are more suitable. While the waves are generally smaller and more manageable, certain spots like Muizenberg offer gentle, longboard-friendly waves that are perfect for learning and improving skills.

For Advanced Surfers:

The South African winter months, from May to September, are ideal.During this period, powerful swells generated by the Roaring Forties produce waves typically ranging from 6 to 15 feet, with some spots experiencing even larger waves. This season is favored by seasoned surfers seeking challenging conditions.
